Welcome to St. Francis Cancer Center
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
The best way to battle cancer is to prevent and detect it early. This is why the Colorectal Cancer Center of Excellence recommends those age 50 and older (both men and women), or those with a family history of colon cancer to ask their doctors about having a screening colonoscopy.
Early colon cancer often has no symptoms. But, later on, colon cancer symptoms may include rectal bleeding, stomach cramps, weight loss, change in bowel habits, or chronic weakness or fatigue. If you experience any of these, see your physician.
Both colorectal and cervical cancers are the only two cancers that can be prevented through screenings. When colon cancer is found in its earliest stages, the survival rate can be 90 percent.
Even though having a colonoscopy may not be on the top of your to-do list, having one could save your life. Don’t let procrastination get in your way of prevention.

A diagnosis of cancer affects all areas of your life.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate against age, race, or gender. For those facing these battles, St. Francis believes that treatment goes well beyond medical care – which is why we treat the spiritual, emotional and physical whole being. Our Cancer Center offers three convenient locations in Beech Grove, Indianapolis or Mooresville.
While you're learning to cope with and accept your diagnosis, it's important for you to have access to information and support. That’s why your team of physician specialists will develop a customized plan for your care.
Our Cancer Centers of Excellence in breast, colorectal or lung, offer a multidisciplinary approach to care and offer Nurse Navigators along the way (see side bar). All our patients have access to a powerful cancer fighting team by their side comprised of board certified physicians, nurses, medical and support staff.
