What is breast cancer?

 

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, about 182,460 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year. The chance of a women having breast cancer during her lifetime is about one in eight.

 

The good news is breast cancer is very treatable, thanks to advanced technology and improved treatment options. In fact, there are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today.

 

Breast cancer death rates are on the decline, due in part to finding the cancer earlier and improved treatment.

Dr. Johnson Miller comes to St. Francis from the surgical oncology division of the Stanford School of Medicine where she practiced for 18 years.

 

Dr. Johnson Miller provides a number of treatment procedures for breast cancer including:

  • Breast ductoscopy
  • Skin sparing mastectomy
  • Image guided surgery
  • DIEP flaps for reconstruction.

She is also actively involved in clinical multi-institutional and pharmaceutical trials for treatment of breast cancer and will soon be starting a high risk breast clinic.
